With a decade of experience, Debra Groberg is the youngest and first woman partner at Nevin Benjamin & McKay LLP, Idaho’s longest standing and leading criminal defense firm. Debra has obtained many accolades including selection by her peers every year since 2022 as a Best Lawyers Ones to Watch, a national award for outstanding professional excellence for up and coming lawyers. She was also honored in 2018 as Idaho Business Review’s Up & Coming Lawyer and in 2022 she was recognized with Idaho Business Review’s Accomplished Under 40 Award.
Debra prides herself on her unwavering dedication to her clients and the pursuit of justice. With this perspective, Debra has successfully defended criminal matters ranging from infractions to complex federal felonies, obtaining advantageous settlements and numerous jury trial acquittals along the way.
Debra is a native of Idaho and both a Bronco and a Vandal, graduating cum laude from Boise State University before obtaining her law degree from the University of Idaho, College of Law. Not only did Debra excel in her law school classes, but she was also a research assistant for Constitutional Law, a teaching assistant for Lawyering Process, the Chief Symposium Editor of the Idaho Law Review, and worked at the law library. Upon graduation, she enjoyed a coveted clerkship for the Honorable Judge David Gratton at the Idaho Court of Appeals before accepting a position as a Deputy Prosecutor for the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office.
Debra is also a long-standing member of the Idaho Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and has been a dedicated member of Idaho Women Lawyers, serving on the Board of Directors from 2017 through 2024.
Debra doesn’t do anything halfway, and in 2022 she and her husband expanded their family from two to five, adopting their three foster children. Together they enjoy the many outdoor activities Idaho offers, reading funny children’s books, and exploring great local food.
